           La bandiera venne adottata il <strong>3 luglio 1962</strong>. Essa è simile a quelle precedenti usate dal Fronte di Liberazione Nazionale (FLN) e trarrebbe ispirazione dai colori usati da Abdel Kadir nel XIX secolo. Il bianco simboleggia la purezza, mentre il verde è per l'Islam.

Sie ähnelt den zuvor von der Nationalen Befreiungsfront (FLN) verwendeten Flaggen und wurde durch die von Abdel Kadir im 19. Jahrhundert verwendeten Farben inspiriert. Weiß symbolisiert die Reinheit, während Grün für den Islam steht.
